The artist, Jose Morell created a small body of poster images mainly in the 1940's & 50's all commissioned by the Spanish State Tourist Department. SPAIN 1935 ARTIST: JOSEP MORELL MACIAS (1899-1949) ORIGINAL Vintage Travel poster promoting travel to Spain.

Depicted here a young woman bather frolicking in the waves and catching a beach ball by artist Josep Morell Macias. Published by the Spanish State Tourist Department, Madrid Margin Text (Printing Company): "719 = 5 = 015""PRINTED IN SPAIN""PIULATS." Artist: Josep Morell MACIAS (1899-1949) Catalan graphic designer, photographer and painter, born in Gerona. Macias studied at the School of Fine Arts "Santa Isabel de Huerta" in Sevilla.

He later moved to Madrid and finally to Barcelona, where he established his residence and stood out as one of the best poster designers of the 1930s. He did this without abandoning easel painting. In 1939 he held a series of exhibitions of his large-format oil works in the muralist genre. He also participated in various collectives, receiving medals at the Paris and Madrid Exhibitions (1932) and in the Málaga Exhibition (1936).

In 1933 he was awarded the Barcelona National Medal. Macias was assistant professor at the School of Arts and Trades in Barcelona. During the 1930's he was commissioned by the Spanish government to create a variety of posters promoting tourism. Some of his paintings and etchings can be seen at the National Prado Museum in Madrid.
