This rare 19th c Viksdal pantry box, decorated in the Sogn style, is from the region of Norway known as Sogn og Fjordare.
Details
Made from thin layers of steam bent wood, the box is laced together with birch root.
This painted bentwood box retains its original black and green floral decoration on a salmon ground. This style of Rosmaling painting is simpler and more abstract then others and is known for its use of S curves.
