This was a labor of love; our client asked us to give her newly constructed home the charm and patina of an 18th century Swedish manor house, a lovely country pavilion. We envisaged it as a timeless, calm space made as much for reflection as for entertaining.
The most important aspect for us was to make sure it felt authentic and that it had all the elements of a Gustavian interior, a Swedish take on the French Neoclassical style.
We incorporated important elements of the period: plastered walls, and antique wide-plank wood floors finished with painstaking attention to detail using liming wax applied with a toothbrush by an artisan who came in from Sweden for the project.
The space was also custom built; the cabinets were designed by architect Reese Owens and fabricated using traditional woodworking skills by our craftsmen in Sweden, then painted in historic, period colors.
We brought in an artist from Sweden to paint murals on antique Swedish canvas and designed the bespoke lighting to look like old Swedish lanterns.
Lastly, we furnished the new house with fine Swedish antiques to create a functional yet elegant home.
